The William A. Campbell award is only given at the discretion of the presiding President of the Tax Collectors' Association. The award may be given to any member of the association based on their exemplary efforts and dedication to the area of tax collections. William (Bill) Campbell work and assisted the School of Government from 1965 through 2006 with special emphasis on ad valorem property taxation. Through his many years of service, Mr. Campbell was the primary point person within the State of North Carolina to answer all questions concerning local government taxation. Mr. Campbell worked closely with the North Carolina General Assembly to craft new legislation, local government Commissioners and Managers to promote taxation, and local government tax employees to provide education on tax laws and general practices on taxation. Mr. Campbell served with distinction the office of Secretary of the NC Tax Collectors’ Association from 1972 until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Campbell traveled throughout the state and work many long hours to promote, educate, and up hold the laws to the highest standards for taxation.
